About the USA BRAIN BEE

Engaging Teens in Neuroscience

The USA Brain Bee was founded in 1998 by Dr. Norbert Myslinski at the University of Maryland and is co-directed by Dr. Norbert Myslinski and Dr. Manuella Oliveira Yassa.  Since its inception, this neuroscience competition has inspired thousands of teens to learn about the brain and pursue careers in neuroscience-related fields. Over 25,000 teens participate in Brain Bee competitions each year around the world.

Each year, high schoolers around the world compete in local Brain Bee competitions. Winners of local USA Brain Bee competitions advance to compete in the USA National Brain Bee Championship.

Prizes of $1,500, $1000 and $500 are awarded to the first, second and third place winners of the USA Brain Bee Championship.

 The first place winner of the USA Brain Bee Championship will advance to represent the USA in International Brain Bee Championship.

Dr. Manuella Oliveira Yassa

Co-Director

Dr. Manuella Oliveira Yassa is the Director of Outreach and Education at the University of California Irvine Center for the Neurobiology of Learning and Memory and co-Director of the USA Brain Bee.
